The Indian Army, in collaboration with the police and other security agencies, has achieved a significant breakthrough in recovering arms and ammunition in Manipur.

A total of 42 weapons, along with a substantial quantity of ammunition and war-like stores, were seized during operations across both the hill and valley regions of the state, according to official sources.

Security forces in Manipur have intensified operations in vulnerable areas, conducting search operations and ensuring area domination to maintain law and order. On December 30, 2024, acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Army conducted a joint search operation in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, CRPF and the Manipur Police in the Konchak area of Imphal West district and recovered one Carbine Machine Gun, one modified .303 rifle, two 9mm pistols, three single-barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition and war-like stores.

One M16, three ‘Lathods’, seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammunition and war-like stores were recovered in a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in the general area between Thingphai & TS Laijang village in Chandel district on December 31, 2024.

In Churachandpur district, an intelligence-based operation by the Indian Army, SSB and the Police in general area of Khujoirok Nala, northwest of Thumkhonglok, on the same day resulted in the recovery of one SLR rifle, one .303 rifle (modified), two 9-mm automatic pistols, one single-barrel 12-bore gun, one anti-riot gun, grenades, ammunition and war like stores.

In the same district, an operation by the Assam Rifles and the police in a jungle near Saiboh village of Sangaikot sub-division on January 2, resulted in recovery of one 7.62-mm self-loading rifle (SLR), two 9-mm pistols and three 12-mm bore single barrel rifles.

In a series of operations in Imphal West, Thoubal and Kangpokpi in the general areas of Konchak, Leishangthem and Laibol Khunou between December 30, 2024, and January 3, 2025, the Assam Rifles and the state police also recovered several arms, ammunitions and war-like stores.

Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity on January 4 officially ended the indefinite economic blockade along NH-2 and the extended 24-hour total shutdown in Sadar Hills.
