JP Singh appointed Ambassador to Israel
India has appointed Jitender Pal Singh the next Ambassador to Israel.
At present, Singh, who is serving as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, looks after the Pakistan Afghanistan and Iran (PAI) desk. Singh, a 2002-batch Indian Foreign Service official, was involved in the meetings with Taliban in Afghanistan to send in humanitarian aid, medicines and food supplies. This resulted in Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri meeting his counterpart earlier this month in Dubai, further opening options for India.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “He is expected to take up the assignment shorty.”
India and Israel enjoy a strong bilateral relationship. Trade between the two countries has significantly increased, with India being a major importer of Israeli military equipment and a growing market for Israeli technology in areas such as agriculture, water management and cybersecurity. While the relationship is strong, India continues to maintain a balanced approach to its relations with Israel and the Arab world.
