Khilafat Majlis calls for protest against India’s Waqf Act on April 23
Bangladesh’s extremist party Khilafat Majlis has called for a protest march in front of the Indian Embassy in Dhaka on April 23 against the Waqf (Amendment) Act passed by the Indian Parliament recently.
In a meeting of the central executive council held at the party's head office in Dhaka, officials called for a mass march, besides presenting a memorandum on April 23, demanding the cancellation of the Act passed by the Indian Parliament.
In a video on social media, party chief Maulana Mamunul Haque can be heard saying that the land belonging to Muslims in India had been encroached upon. “By encroaching on, or illegally acquiring, the private and Waqf properties of Muslims, they are constructing various structures there, including temples,” he said.
"We have expressed our anger and condemnation of these steps. Muslims across India erupted in protest against the bill as it basically interferes with our religious laws and rights," Haque alleged.
The party also urged Bangladesh interim government head Muhammad Yunus to immediately express its concern with India.
