Mandakini, her sister & their trusty scooter: Meet 'biker dadis' who ride in Sholay style!

“Age might have slowed me down, but I still love to work and explore, be it anything,” says 87-year-old Mandakini Shah from Ahmedabad. The feisty senior citizen is defying age and societal norms with her trusty scooter and adventurous spirit.

Mandakini learned to ride a scooter at the ripe age of 62 and has been cruising around the city with her younger sister Usha ever since. When asked why she rides at 87, she simply says, "Why not?"

The Instagram video, shared by @officialhumansofbombay, has garnered over 1.1 million views so far.

The post read: "For years, people asked, ‘Aapki shaadi nahi hui? Kya aap vidhwa ho?’ To them, a woman alone was a story unfinished. To me, I was a story unfolding with each passing day. I wanted marriage once, yes… but life had other plans. And I went with that flow."

As the eldest of six siblings, Mandakini learned responsibility at a young age. She began working as a Montessori teacher at 16 and later became involved in social welfare projects, teaching women about their rights. Her travels taught her to ride a moped, a jeep and finally, her beloved scooter.

"I meet my friends every day. We sing. We eat. We play games. I love teaching games to people," the post continues to read.

Even today, she and her sister roam the city on that scooter. Her simple rule of life is to live freely, not just as hard as she worked, but even more.
