Manmohan greatest champion of India-US strategic ties: US

Says that at home, Singh will be remembered for his economic reforms that spurred India’s rapid economic growth

The United States has condoled the death of former prime minister Manmohan Singh and described him as the “greatest champion” of India- US strategic partnership.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a statement said, “The US offers sincere condolences to the people of India for the passing of former prime minister Manmohan Singh.”

The statement described Manmohan as “one of the greatest champions of the US-India strategic partnership”. It added, “His work laid the foundation for much of what our countries have accomplished together in the past two decades.”

At home, Singh would be remembered for his economic reforms that spurred India’s rapid economic growth, the US said and recounted the tenure of Manmohan. “His leadership in advancing the US-India Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement signified a major investment in the potential of the US-India relationship,” the US said.  

“We mourn Singh’s passing and will always remember his dedication to bringing the United States and India closer together,” the statement concluded.
