Modi applauds India’s space success in Mann Ki Baat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its continued success in the space sector, noting that it has become a preferred career choice for today’s youth.
“I will talk about the incredible century that India has achieved in space. Last month, the country witnessed ISRO’s 100th rocket launch. This is not just a number; it reflects our resolve to reach new heights in space science,” Modi said during his monthly Mann Ki Baat address.
The monthly radio programme remains a crucial platform for the Prime Minister to connect with citizens. In this session, he focused on multiple topics, including dietary advice and encouraging young people to cultivate a scientific mindset.
The PM highlighted India’s humble beginnings in space exploration, where challenges were present at every step, yet scientists persevered and achieved remarkable success.
“With time, our accomplishments in space science have only grown. Whether it is developing launch vehicles, the success of Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan and Aditya-L1, or the unprecedented feat of launching 104 satellites in a single mission, ISRO’s achievements are vast,” he said.
Modi noted that in the past decade, India has launched 460 satellites, including many from other countries. He also emphasised the increasing participation of women in the space sector.
“One of the most remarkable developments in recent years is the growing involvement of women in our team of space scientists,” he said.
Expressing his delight at the rising interest of young people in the space sector, he said, “I am happy to see that space has become a favourite career choice for our youth. Just a few years ago, no one would have imagined that the number of startups and private sector space companies in India would reach the hundreds. For young people seeking thrilling and exciting opportunities, the space sector is becoming an excellent option.”
With National Science Day approaching, the Prime Minister urged students and young minds to develop a passion for science.
He introduced the concept of ‘One Day as a Scientist’, encouraging people to visit research labs, planetariums, or space centres to experience the scientific process firsthand. He emphasised that such experiences would enhance curiosity and deepen understanding.
The PM also spoke about India’s advancements in artificial intelligence. Reflecting on his experience at a recent AI conference in Paris, he noted that global leaders have recognised India’s rapid progress in the field, highlighting the country’s growing influence in cutting-edge technology.
Modi, along with India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and boxer Nikhat Zareen, also addressed the issue of obesity and advised people to reduce their consumption of cooking oil.
“To build a fit and healthy nation, we must tackle obesity. According to a study, one in every eight people today suffers from obesity. Cases have doubled in recent years, and what is even more concerning is that childhood obesity has increased fourfold,” the PM said.
He advised people to purchase 10 per cent less cooking oil and gradually reduce their consumption to promote a healthier lifestyle.
