More OBC applicants than general for JEE Main-1
New Delhi, February 3
Enrolment data pertaining to Joint Entrance Exam (Session 1) held in January reveal crucial insights into the nature of applicants.
The data shared by the National Testing Agency, which conducts the test for entry to centrally funded technical institutions, shows that registration of OBC candidates this year was 20 per cent more than general category students and registration of male students was double than that of females.
Among 12,31,874 candidates who registered for the JEE Session 1, only 4,06,920 were females as against 8,24,945 males.
The data reveals that two third candidates were male and one third women, indicating a continuing gender gap in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines.
Of all registered candidates, 4,16,086 are from the general category and 4,98,179 from the OBC segment.
The NTA today said the overall attendance in JEE Session 1 across India was 95.8 per cent, the highest ever.
The exam was held in 13 languages, including Hindi, English and Punjabi.
The exam was conducted held in 21 cities outside India.
The JEE Main is held in two sessions annually and students can choose to sit in any of them.
The JEE 2024 second session is set to be conducted from April 1 to 15. JEE Session 1 was held from January 24 to February 1.
