Musk announces India visit after talks with PM
Tesla owner Elon Musk, the world’s richest person with a strong influence in the US administration, on Saturday announced that he will visit India later this year. This comes a day after PM Narendra Modi and Musk discussed collaboration in areas of technology and innovation.
The billionaire entrepreneur in a post on X said: “It was an honour to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year!” Modi had in a post earlier said that they talked about various issues, including topics that were discussed when they had met in Washington DC in February.
“We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains,” Modi had said.
A team of Starlink, the space-based Internet service owned by Musk, was in India for meetings earlier this week. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have entered into a partnership with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed satellite Internet services to users in India. The rollout will depend on SpaceX securing regulatory approval from the government. Tesla, an electric vehicle company owned by Musk, is further planning to set up a manufacturing base in India.
Musk’s India visit announcement comes amid escalating global tensions as countries race to draft fresh trade agreements with the US following tariffs.
