Narwekar to return as Maha Speaker, MVA skips contest
Colaba MLA Rahul Narwekar of the BJP is all set to get re-elected as speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly with the opposition MVA on Sunday deciding to skip the contest. Narwekar filed his nomination on Sunday. He was accompanied by CM Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.

The election result — a formality after the MVA decided not to put up a candidate — will be announced on Monday. The Fadnavis government will then prove its majority on the floor of the House, following the customary Governor’s address.
Meanwhile, leaders of the MVA, struggling to keep its flock together, today met Fadnavis and demanded the position of the deputy speaker. They cited convention to seek the post. The MVA has also sought the LoP’s post.
