National Medical Council cancels registration of 4 doctors accused in Red Fort blast

The Association of Indian Universities has also suspended the membership of Al Falah University

Following the registration of FIRs under relevant Sections of UAPA owing to their involvement in the blast near the Red Fort the National Medical Commission on Friday has cancelled the registration of four doctors — Dr Muzaffar Ahmad, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Muzamil Shakeel and Dr Shaheen Saeed.

Dr Muzaffar Ahmad, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr Muzamil Shakeel were registered with the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Council.

The NMC in an order stated that the conduct of doctors is “prima facie inconsistent with the standards of ethical propriety, integrity and public trust expected of members of the medical profession…” under relevant clauses of the Indian Medical Council regulations.

“The Jammu & Kashmir Medical Council has ordered cancellation of registration of Dr Muzaffar Ahmad, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr Muzamil Shakeel with directions that their names be removed from the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the council with immediate effect. Consequent upon such removal, the said practitioner shall cease to be entitled to practice medicine or to hold any appointment as a medical practitioner till further orders,” the order said.

Dr Shaheen Saeed was registered with the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council.

A senior official with the NMC had earlier told The Tribune that based on the evidence collected by the investigative agencies, the council will take action.

On Thursday, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) also issued a show-cause notice to Al Falah University seeking its response to the claims that the varsity made on its website about its NAAC accreditation. The agency said the accreditation had already expired.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has also suspended the membership of Al Falah University.
