National taxi cooperative on Uber, Ola lines soon: Minister
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said a national level taxi cooperative service along the lines of Uber and Ola would be rolled out soon along with a Cooperative Insurance Company.
Replying to the discussions on The Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill 2025 in Lok Sabha today, Shah also said a cooperative insurance company would be set up soon with plans to make it the largest private insurance provider in the country.
The Bill, to establish India’s first cooperative university in Gujarat, was passed by a voice vote amid negation of several amendments moved by the Opposition MPs. Disclosing that he had himself opened an account in a Cooperative Bank, Shah said the proposed University in Gujarat would instruct 8 lakh students annually with certificate, diploma, degree and PhD courses.
He said the university would have state level affiliate institutes through which it will work and would also, for the first time, offer standardized course material for subjects in the sector.
“Soon we will have a National Taxi Cooperative on the same lines as Ola and Uber. This will have a two wheeler, rickshaw and four wheeler registration. All profit will go to drivers. A cooperative insurance company will also be formed soon,” he said.
