Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Operation Sindoor and the Indian military’s precision strikes on Pakistan-based terror hubs demonstrated the success of national defence capacities and the effectiveness of indigenous technologies in fighting terrorism. He was chairing a meeting of 20 CMs and 18 deputy CMs of NDA-ruled states, the first such assembly after India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The meeting was a show of the ruling dispensation’s unity ahead of NDA 3.0’s first anniversary on June 9. It passed two resolutions. The first on Operation Sindoor congratulated the PM for his decisive leadership, saluted the bravery of the armed forces and resolved never to be deterred by nuclear blackmail.

The resolution, proposed by Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and seconded by Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, said India had proved that whoever challenged it would be reduced to dust and added that the operation had given ordinary citizens a new sense of self-esteem.

The second resolution, on caste enumeration, moved by Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, hailed PM Modi for the decision and said caste enumeration would help check the Opposition’s politics of social fragmentation. It described the move as a historic decision, counting caste groups and their numbers for the first time since Independence, reflecting the government’s commitment to social empowerment and inclusion while advancing the objectives of social justice.

The resolution criticised the Congress for not enumerating castes during its decades in power, expressing disappointment with the Opposition’s “petty politics” on the issue.

It condemned the Congress for various past actions, including engineering the defeat of BR Ambedkar, denying him the Bharat Ratna, opposing the Mandal Commission, and resisting constitutional status for the backward commission. The resolution added that, sadly, for the Congress, the caste had become a tool for political expediency.

The NDA gathering also discussed plans to mark Loktantra Hatya Divas on June 25, which will see the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. The meeting was attended by top BJP allies, including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar (JDU), Andhra CM N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Andhra deputy CM Pawan Kalyan (Janasena), and Maharashtra Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena) and Ajit Pawar (NCP).

PM Modi later hailed best practices the states showcased at the meeting in water conservation, grievance redressal, administrative reforms, education, women empowerment and sports.

“I emphasised the need to add momentum to our development trajectories and ensure the benefits of a double-engine government reach the people in an effective manner. I also spoke about building stronger synergies in key areas, be it cleanliness, sanitation, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture, technology and more,” the PM said, with Home Minister Amit Shah making a presentation at the meeting on India’s progress towards the elimination of left wing extremism by March 2026.

After the meeting, BJP chief JP Nadda said the NDA did not believe in caste politics and was solely guided by the principles of reaching those left behind in the development journey. This, he said, was clear from the fact that NDA's policies had pulled 25 crore people out of poverty in a decade.
