NEET UG to be conducted in pen-and-paper mode
The National Testing Agency on Thursday said the NEET (UG)-2025 would be conducted in the pen-and-paper mode in a single day and single shift.
The NTA has been conducting the NEET (UG) since 2019 on behalf of the National Medical Commission.
The decision comes after the education and health ministries had said last month that they were yet to decide whether the medical entrance exam for 2025 would be held in the pen-and-paper mode or would be a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that the talks were at the secretary level.
“The administrative ministry of NEET is the health ministry, and we are in talks with them to decide whether NEET should be conducted in the pen-and-paper mode or online,” Pradhan had said.
The notification said NEET (UG) is for admission to undergraduate courses, including Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), and Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS) courses in all medical institutions. NEET (UG) shall also be applicable for admission to the BHMS course under the National Commission for Homeopathy.
Additionally, MNS (Military Nursing Service) aspirants who are seeking admission to BSc Nursing Courses being conducted at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals for the year 2025 are required to qualify the NEET (UG). The scores of NEET (UG) will be used for shortlisting for selection to the four-year BSc Nursing course.
The exam is conducted for a duration of three hours 20 minutes. It consists of 200 questions of which students have to attempt 180.
After allegations of paper leak in NEET (UG) exam last year, the Union government had formed a high-level committee to make recommendations on how to curb such instances.
