No world leader told India to pause Op Sindoor: Modi disputes Trump in Parliament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday disputed US President Donald Trump's claims of mediation to pause the May hostilities between India and Pakistan and said no world leader told India to pause Operation Sindoor.

Narrating the sequence of events leading to the May 10 cessation of Operation Sindoor, Modi said on the night of May 9, he received a call from US Vice President JD Vance and he could not first take the call because he was busy in a meeting with the armed forces.

"I returned the call of VP Vance and he told me Pakistan is planning a major attack on India. My answer was if Pakistan has this intention, it will pay a heavy cost. If Pakistan attacks, we will attack bigger. We will respond to bullets with cannons, I told him," the PM said, adding that between May 9 and 10 Indian armed forces destroyed Pakistan's defences.

"Today, Pakistan knows well that every answer of India is stronger than the last. It knows India can do anything if push comes to shove. So I again want to repeat today that Operation Sindoor is under way," Modi said replying to a 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha today.

He said India had clarified from day one that its goal was to destroy terrorists, terror hubs and its actions were non-escalatory in response to the April 22 Pakistan-sponsored terror attack.

Modi said India had stated in the first press conference after Operation Sindoor that it had done what it had to do.

"After the success of the operation, the Indian Army informed the Pakistan Army that we have achieved our goal. This was done to assess Pakistan's mind. We had achieved our goals. If Pakistan was wise it would not have stood openly by terrorists. But Pakistan shamelessly decided to stand with terrorists. When Pakistan decided to back terrorists, our armed forces responded with force delivering a message they would remember for years. Our missiles hit all corners of Pakistan -- something Pakistan had never imagined. This brought Pakistan to its knees. This was when Pakistan phoned our DGMO and appealed -- bas karo, bahut maara, ab zyada maar jhelney ki taqat nahi hai. Please stop the attack," said Modi, adding that this was when India paused hostilities.

The PM also said India had brought the perpetrators of Pahalgam attack to justice and questioned the opposition for raising doubts about the timing of Operation Mahadev which killed the three Pakistani terrorists on Monday.
