New Delhi, July 6
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Saturday approved a proposal to display nutritional information as regards total sugar, salt and saturated fat in bold letters and relatively increased font size on labels of packaged food items.
The regulatory body approved amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020, during its 44th meeting chaired by FSSAI chairperson Apurva Chandra. The move is aimed at empowering consumers to have a better understanding of the nutritional value of the product and make informed decisions. The draft notification for the same would be put in the public domain for inviting suggestions and objections.
