On Kargil Vijay Diwas, PM Modi says Pakistan failed to draw lessons from the past

During a visit to Kargil to mark 25 years of victory against Pakistan in the 1999 war, PM Narendra Modi today said the neighbouring country “has not learnt anything” from the past. The PM was at the Kargil war memorial in Dras, Ladakh, where he attended a tribute ceremony to pay homage to the soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict (May-July 1999).

He said: “Pakistan has not learnt anything from its past and has continued to wage war in the garb of terrorism and proxy wars to stay relevant.”

The nefarious intentions of terrorists would never be fulfilled, he added. “Our bravehearts will trample all the terrorists,” said the PM, in what is seen as a reference to recent spurt in violence in the Jammu region. About the war in 1999, Modi said: “In Kargil, we not only won the war, but also presented an incredible example of truth, restraint and strength.”

“India will overcome all challenges that come in the way of development, be it in Ladakh or Jammu & Kashmir,” he reiterated.
