A parliamentary committee on Thursday inspected the IGI airport run by GMR Group-led Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) amid allegations that private airport operators were planning to charge exorbitantly high User Development Fee (UDF) from passengers.

After concluding the visit, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson and Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said, “We specifically discussed the issue of user fee which is going to cause a major issue among the passengers. They have assured us that they will look into this matter seriously."

In January, the PAC had sought a response from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on how the UDF was calculated.

For domestic flights, different rates will apply depending on whether passengers travel during peak or non-peak hours. The peak flying hours have been designated as 5 am to 8.55 am and 5 pm to 8.55 pm.

In addition to the UDF changes, the airport operator has also proposed increases to landing and parking charges for aircraft using the airport facility.

Recently, DIAL chief executive Videh Kumar Jaipuriar had said the proposed tariff charges would barely impact economy class airfares.

Venugopal also visited the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza and Dwarka Expressway and enquired about the rate of toll collected from vehicles.
