Pahalgam attack: China calls for de-escalation between India and Pakistan

China on Sunday called for de-escalation between India and Pakistan following heightened tensions over the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead and several injured.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Beijing’s appeal comes at a time when India has vowed stringent action against the perpetrators.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a stern warning to “terrorists and their patrons involved in a conspiracy to destroy Kashmir". He has vowed stringent action against the perpetrators.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Navy carried out a drill to “demonstrate readiness”.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has called for an independent investigation into the Pahalgam attack, saying that Russia and China can play a role in the probe.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also welcomed Iran’s offer to de-escalate the crisis between New Delhi and Islamabad.
