New Delhi, August 4
After a 60-km chase that ended at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Delhi Police apprehended prominent realtor Sanjeev Kumar Jain following issuance of non-bailable warrants against him by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
The police said today that Jain, managing director and CEO of Parsvnath Developers Private Limited and a resident of DLF Phase-2, Gurugram, was taken into custody on Saturday. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in Delhi had issued the warrants on July 18 after Jain failed to appear in a case.
According to police officials, multiple warrants, including four non-bailable and one bailable, had been issued against Jain, all pending at the Shahdara police station. “After sincere efforts, Sanjeev Kumar Jain was apprehended on August 3 and consequently arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Choudhary. Following his arrest, Jain was produced before the NCDRC on Sunday.
The case pertains to a long-standing consumer complaint filed in 2017 where Jain’s company Parsvnath Developers had been accused of failing to fulfil its obligations to the complainants, leading to the issuance of multiple legal actions against him.
On July 29, the Supreme Court had upheld the NCDRC’s order directing Parsvnath to refund Rs 1.31 crore to flat buyers in Delhi due to significant project delays. The buyers had paid 95 per cent of the flat’s cost between 2008 and 2013, but the developer failed to deliver the flats within the agreed 36 months.
