PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 2 Rs 11,000-cr projects to decongest Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a blistering attack on previous governments in Delhi, accusing them of “ruining the Capital and pushing it into a pit of neglect”, even as he praised the newly elected BJP government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for “cleaning the mess” left behind.
Modi’s remarks came after he inaugurated the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II worth nearly Rs 11,000 crore, aimed at easing congestion and transforming connectivity in the national capital and its surrounding areas.
These national highways are expected to significantly reduce travel time from Sonepat, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh and Gurugram to IGI Airport when completely operational.
Addressing a gathering in Rohini, “Dwarka Expressway and UER-II will benefit people of Delhi-NCR...The government is making efforts to remove all difficulties of the people in Delhi,” Modi said.
Claiming that the BJP had inherited a city crippled by mismanagement, he said, “The earlier governments ruined Delhi, pushed it into such a pit that the new BJP government has to first spend energy filling those pits before any progress can be seen.”
Targeting opposition parties, Modi alleged they had “lost touch with both people’s trust and ground reality” and could not digest the mandate. He also referred to past attempts to “spread poison” between Delhi and Haryana, claiming BJP rule across NCR states had ended such “negative politics”.
Help implement proposed GST reforms: Modi to states
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Centre has circulated the draft of the next-generation GST reforms among states and sought their cooperation to implement the proposal before Diwali. He said the reform in GST would benefit poor and middle-class people, as well as small and big businesses.
Contrasting this with what he called the BJP’s governance model, Modi highlighted the removal of 16 lakh metric tonnes of silt from the Yamuna, induction of 650 electric buses (with a target of 2,000), permanent housing for slum dwellers and transparency in government jobs in neighbouring Haryana.
He accused earlier regimes of trampling on the dignity of sanitation workers by enforcing “draconian” rules that allowed jail terms for missing work without notice. “Those who talk of social justice treated safai karamcharis like slaves. Our government is tearing down such colonial-era laws,” he said.
Listing broader infrastructure gains, Modi cited the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways, Dwarka Expressway, Vande Bharat trains and modernised airports and railway stations. He said the Centre had increased the infrastructure budget more than sixfold in 11 years.
The PM also promised reforms in GST before Diwali, calling it a “double bonus” for families and businesses, while urging citizens and traders to back his “Vocal for Local” campaign by buying only Made-in-India products this festive season.
Closing on a political note, Modi declared: “For those who ruled Delhi for years, the aim was only to rule people. For us, governance means reform, respect and responsibility.”
