PM Modi leaves for three-nation tour to Jordan, Ethiopia, Oman
Prime Minister to hold talks with leaders of Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman; to meet Indian diaspora
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday embarked on a three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, underscoring India’s historical and strategic ties with the three countries.
In a departure statement, the Prime Minister said the visit would deepen India’s partnerships with “three nations with which India shares both age-old civilisational ties and extensive contemporary bilateral relations”.
Visit to Jordan
Modi’s first stop will be the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where he will meet King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan.
The Prime Minister will also address members of the Indian community in Amman, acknowledging their role in strengthening bilateral ties.
First visit to Ethiopia
From Amman, Modi will travel to Ethiopia on the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, marking his first visit to the East African nation.
Highlighting Ethiopia’s importance as the headquarters of the African Union, the Prime Minister recalled that during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, the African Union was admitted as a permanent member of the group.
In Addis Ababa, Modi will hold detailed discussions with his counterpart, interact with the Indian diaspora, and address a Joint Session of Parliament. He is expected to speak about India’s democratic traditions and its cooperation with the Global South.
Oman visit to mark 70 years of diplomatic ties
On the final leg of his tour, Modi will visit Oman to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In Muscat, the Prime Minister will meet His Majesty the Sultan of Oman to discuss enhancing the Strategic Partnership and bolstering economic and commercial cooperation. He will also address a gathering of the Indian community, which has played a key role in Oman’s development and in advancing India–Oman relations.
