PM Modi meets King Charles at Sandringham House during UK visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met King Charles at Sandringham Estate in UK. The meeting came hours after the signing of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, which marked a significant diplomatic moment, highlighting the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.
The British royal family in a post on X said that King Charles III received PM Modi at Sandringham House on Thursday afternoon. During the meeting, the King was presented with a sapling to be planted this autumn.
“This afternoon, The King received the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, at Sandringham House. During their time together, His Majesty was given a tree to be planted this Autumn, inspired by the environmental initiative launched by the Prime Minister, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, which encourages people to plant a tree in tribute to their mothers,” the royal family said in the post.
Earlier today, India and the UK signed a landmark Free Trade Agreement, aiming to boost bilateral trade by nearly $34 billion annually. The agreement was formalised in London during Prime Minister Modi’s visit, with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds representing their respective countries.
Touted as India’s most ambitious trade deal in over a decade and the UK’s first major post-Brexit agreement, the pact has been hailed by both governments as a significant milestone in their economic partnership.
