Committed to a mutually beneficial partnership: PM Modi on phone talk with Trump
US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reaffirmed the commitment to advancing cooperation between the two countries in technology, trade, investment, energy and defence.
Modi and Trump spoke over the phone and it was the first interaction the two had since Trump took over on January 20.
“The leaders agreed to remain in touch and meet soon at an early mutually convenient date,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement issued on Monday night.
“The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment for a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership,” the statement said.
“They discussed various facets of the wide-ranging bilateral Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and measures to advance it, including in the areas of technology, trade, investment, energy and defence,” the statement added.
The India-US partnership – often seen as a ‘defining partnership’ of the 21st century – holds promise of high-technology partnerships in military equipment, semi-conductors, outer space exploration, energy sector and AI.
Modi and Trump also exchanged views on global issues, including the situation in West Asia and Ukraine. Modi had been urging Russia and Ukraine that ‘battlefield is not the solution to resolve anything’. The recent peace deal between Israel and Hamas was also welcomed by India.
The PMO statement said, “They (Modi and Trump) reiterated their commitment to working together for promoting global peace, prosperity and security.”
Modi congratulated Trump on his historic second term as the President.
Earlier in the evening, Modi put out a post on X saying, “Delighted to speak with my dear friend President Donald Trump. Congratulated him on his historic second term.
“We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity and security.”
