Poet Munawwar Rana dies at 71

Lucknow, January 14

Renowned poet Munawwar Rana passed away at the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences here on Sunday. He was 71 years old. He was suffering from throat cancer for a long time.

Rana’s daughter Sumaiya Rana said her father died at the hospital late on Sunday night and would be laid to rest on Monday. The poet is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
