On September 22, 1965, 52 innocent residents were killed due to unprovoked bombardment by Pakistan in Chheharta township. Principal Rajesh Prabhakar, Col Shiv Patyal, Kulbhushan Ratan, Coordinator, Raj Vidya Kendra, Jarnail Singh and Krishna Ballu, son of social worker Satish Ballu, paid homage to the dead at their memorial.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
