Leader of Opposition (LOP) Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the loan waiver demands of farmers are being ignored, while accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government of "easily" waiving loans for those who have crores in the country.

Citing the case of Maharashtra, Rahul said that in just 3 months, 767 farmers have committed suicide in the state.

"Is this just a statistic? No. These are 767 destroyed homes. 767 families that will never be able to recover. And the government? It is silent. It is watching indifferently," he said in a post on X. He said farmers are sinking deeper into debt every day.

"Seeds are expensive, fertilizers are expensive, diesel is expensive… but there is no guarantee of MSP. When they demand a loan waiver, they are ignored," he said. However, he alleged, "But those who have crores? The Modi government easily waives off their loans. Just look at today's news - Anil Ambani's ₹48,000 crore SBI 'fraud'."

The LOP took a jibe at the PM, saying, "Modi ji had said that he will double the income of farmers – today the situation is such that the life of the food provider is being halved." He alleged that the PM is involved in watching his own PR.

"This system is killing farmers – silently, but continuously and Modi ji is watching the spectacle of his own PR," he said.
