Ridding Cong of BJP 'moles' to revive party in Guj: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said ridding the party's Gujarat unit of BJP "moles" would give a new lease of life to the organisation in the state. The Congress has failed to win Assembly elections in the state in the past three decades.

Addressing party workers in Ahmedabad, Rahul said the fundamental reason for the Congress' poor performance in the state was the presence of “two types” of Congress workers.

"One type of Congress workers are those who stand with the people and have the ideology of the party in their heart. There is a second type who do not respect the party and half of them have clandestine links with the BJP," he claimed.

“Till the time we do not clearly separate these two groups, people of Gujarat will not trust us. The people of Gujarat — traders, small and medium businessmen, farmers, labourers and students — want an alternative, not a B-team of the BJP,” Rahul said.

“If we have to remove 30-40 people, it should be done. They are working from inside for the BJP, let them work from outside," he said.

Rahul, who arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday, said during interactions with party workers he tried to find out the reason for Congress' poor electoral performance and came to the conclusion that the party lost ground because it did not fulfil its “responsibility”.

“The day we fulfill our responsibility, I guarantee you that people of Gujarat will give their support to the Congress,” Rahul said.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took a swipe at Gandhi, calling him the "BJP's biggest asset".

"He has trolled himself and his party. He tried to show the mirror to himself. Such an honest reaction... Rahul admits he is unable to win in Gujarat, unable to show the way,” Poonawalla said.
