Security has been stepped up around Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residences in Bhopal and New Delhi, sparking speculation in political circles about his potential elevation to the post of BJP national president. However, sources indicate that the heightened security may have been prompted by Intelligence inputs suggesting that certain cross-border elements were attempting to gather information about the minister.
In Bhopal, additional barricades have been installed outside Chouhan’s official bungalow, and temporary tents have been set up to accommodate deployed security personnel. Increased police presence and heightened surveillance were also observed in the area. A similar security enhancement has been reported at his government accommodation in the national capital.
Officials, however, have described the move as part of a routine security review undertaken by the Home Ministry, which periodically reassesses the protection of high-profile leaders. Chouhan already enjoys Z+ category security.
