Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, was on Monday appointed the new Finance Secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared the appointment.

Seth will take over the post after Tuhin Kumar Pandey, the previous finance secretary, proceeded to chair the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

Seth is currently serving as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs.
