They wanted to stage a protest against Turkiye for their support to Pakistan during the recent hostilities with India.

"Turkiye has backstabbed India. When they were in need after the earthquake, we stood by them, sent aid from here. But they supplied drones to Pakistan which were used to attack India," one of the protesters associated with Swadeshi Jagran Manch said.

The protesters referred to Operation Dost launched by India to assist Turkey after the devastating earthquake in February 2023. India sent multiple batches of aid.

"India should cut all diplomatic ties with Turkiye. This is not acceptable," said another protester.

As people holding banners and posters and raising slogans marched towards the Turkiye Embassy, they were stopped by Delhi Police who had placed a layer of barricades as a preventive measure.

The police tried to pacify the protesters. Suspecting that the situation may go out of hand, dozens of people were detained.
