Soon, all-weather access to Leh via Shinkun La tunnel

Work on having an all-weather road to Ladakh commenced today. The new 4.1-km tunnel, under the 16,700-ft Shinkun La pass in Ladakh will be the third access to Ladakh, the other two being via Srinagar and Manali-Keylong.

The ‘twin-tube’ tunnel will be constructed at around 15,800 ft altitude on the Nimoo–Padum–Darcha route. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually witnessed the first blast of the Shinkun La tunnel project in Ladakh. Work on it will be completed by 2026. The route will be of 450 km, running via Manali-Darcha-Shinkun La-Padum-Nimoo-Leh.
