‘Sorry sir, vegetarian families only’: Landlord’s preference for tenant in Chennai sparks debate online

Landlords in India are known to have their preferences for tenants. Being a bachelor, a student or pursuing a specific profession any of this can become a barrier in finding a rental house. And, dietary preferences now might be another addition to this list.

A recent viral post shared on X by a user named Prashant Rangaswami, is going viral. It is because of the landlord’s specific ask for “Veg only families.”

Rangaswami shared this post with a caption, “Eating non veg is injurious to finding flats for rent in Chennai.”

This instantly started a debate on internet, many people supporting him with comments like, “Soft form of casteism and discrimination,” and “We hate non-vegetarian-food and then we cry why Indians look one of the ugliest in the world.”

However, many also sided by the owner by saying, “His house his rules,” and “Uska ghar hai bhai - why are you so entitled?”

Some people on the internet also thought the incident was funny and had a good laugh about it.

“Just say you are a vegetarian,” joked a user.
