Stop spreading hate against Modi: BJP to Opposition after Trump attack
New Delhi, July 18
Close on the heels of an assassination bid on former US president Donald Trump, the ruling BJP on Thursday said Indian opposition’s utterances about Prime Minister Narendra Modi could have “serious implications and must be avoided”.
Cautioning the opposition, especially the Congress, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the words “hinsaa” and “hatya” “have repeatedly figured for PM Modi in the speeches of opposition leaders”.
‘Sonia Gandhi of the Congress was the first to use the words “maut (maut ka saudagar) for PM Modi in 2007. The BJP, even at the height of Emergency, never used such words for then PM Indira Gandhi. We want to caution the opposition, mainly the Congress, to desist from such utterances whose outcomes could be serious for the country. The world just witnessed the consequences of such provocations (in the US),” Trivedi said, recalling how PM Modi’s security was compromised when he visited Punjab in 2022.
Trivedi said the opposition leaders had made “murder-related” references to the PM at least half a dozen times.
“Japanese PM Shinzo Abe was assassinated about a year and a half ago. A few days ago, an attempt on Donald Trump’s life was made.
Tendencies that incite violence can have serious repercussions. Rahul Gandhi of the Congress has routinely made disparaging references against the PM and words like “maarna, dande maarna” have been used. When something was recently flung at the convoy of the PM in Varanasi, Rahul Gandhi justified it. These tendencies are dangerous,” said Trivedi, asking the opposition not to mix politics with “personal hate and envy for Modi”.
