Suresh K Reddy is India's new envoy to Egypt
Suresh K Reddy, a 1991 IFS batch officer, has been appointed as India's Ambassador to Egypt, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday.
Reddy is currently India's envoy to Brazil.
Reddy has had a distinguished career since joining the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1991. He has served in Cairo, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, and Islamabad, and later as India's Ambassador to Iraq and ASEAN.
Reddy also served as the Government of India's Special Envoy to Iraq from June to December 2014, addressing all issues relating to the safety, welfare, and evacuation of Indian nationals. Within the MEA, he has held sensitive and crucial positions, including Head of the Office of the Minister of State for External Affairs, and has been engaged with neighboring countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives in various capacities.
He also established and headed the first ASEAN Multilateral Economic Relations Division. In this capacity, he was instrumental in establishing the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Secretariat, while also looking after ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting), ACD (Asia Cooperation Dialogue), and APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) related issues.
Reddy also headed the Multilateral Economic Relations Division in the MEA from December 2018 to January 2020 and was India's Sous Sherpa to the G20, G7, BRICS, and IBSA. In January 2020, he was deputed as Additional Secretary (Europe) and was coordinating India's engagement with Europe and Central Asia.
