Take strict action against network aiding Rohingyas, B’deshis: Shah to Delhi Police
Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday directed Delhi Police Commissioner to take strict action against the entire network which is helping Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders enter the country, and helping them in settling down in the national capital.
Shah, who held a review meeting on the law and order situation of Delhi with newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and other top officials, said that the issue of illegal intruders is also related to national security and it should be dealt with strictly and they should be identified and deported.
While the Union Home Minister has held review meetings with Delhi Police officials in the recent past, this was his first meeting with Delhi Chief Minister and Home Minister after a gap of 10 years regarding the law and order situation in the city state.
During Sheila Dikshit’s tenure as Chief Minister of Delhi, such meetings with the Union Home Ministry were regularly held, sources informed.
This was also Shah’s first meeting with the Delhi Chief Minister after the BJP won the Delhi elections earlier this month.
Meanwhile during Friday’s meeting, Shah also directed Arora to ensure that Delhi Police’s priority should be eliminate interstate gangs in Delhi with a ruthless approach, while insisting on a top to bottom and bottom to top approach in dealing with narcotics cases and dismantling its entire network, sources aware of the development said.
Shah also called for quick disposal of 2020 Delhi riots cases and directed the Delhi Government to appoint special prosecutors to ensure their speedy disposal.
Focussing on core city-level plans, the Union Home Minister directed that permission of Delhi Police would not be required in matters related to construction.
He also called for strict action against police stations and sub-divisions which consistently perform poorly.
Shah said that DCP-level officers should go to police stations and organise public hearing camps and solve people’s problems.
He also stressed on ensuring safety for women and children and towards this, Shah called for setting up new security committees in ‘jhuggi-jhonpri’ (slum) clusters.
