The ruling BJP government on Wednesday took a swipe at the Congress over Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor’s generous praises for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy.
At the Raisina Dialogue last night, Tharoor said he had an egg on his face for opposing the Indian stand on the Russia and Ukraine war. The Congress leader had previously slammed India’s stance when Russia attacked Ukraine and urged condemnation of the aggression.
However, on Tuesday, he stated that owing to the policy that India adopted at the time, the country was now in a position where it can make a difference for lasting peace.
Owing to the policy that India adopted at the time, the country now has a Prime Minister, who can hug both the president of Ukraine and the president in Moscow two weeks apart and be accepted in both places, he added.
Reacting to Tharoor’s statement, BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla said, “I hope Rahul Gandhi doesn’t act against Shashi Tharoor for praising PM Modi.”
The Thiruvananthapuram MP had earlier praised Modi for positive outcomes from his visit to America and meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Jaya Bachchan lauds Modi’s popularity
SP leader Jaya Bachchan said at a local event here that politicians can never match the popularity of actors, not unless the politician is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I belong to the Opposition, but I strongly feel this. The fact is that the ruling party leaders, whether they were film actors or non-film actors, emerged victorious only because of Narendra Modi’s name, not for their own political capability,” she said.
