Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of dodging discussions in Parliament following repeated assertions by US President Donald Trump that he brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on the day PM Modi is set to visit the UK for a landmark India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Gandhi said the truth is that Trump got the ceasefire done. “The truth cannot be hidden,” he said.

He emphasised that the Opposition seeks a discussion in Parliament on multiple pressing issues facing the country.

“It is not only the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) problem. The entire nation knows the situation is not good. Apart from Operation Sindoor, there are many other problems faced by the Army that we want to talk, but there is no discussion,” he said.

Taking a jibe at PM Modi, Gandhi remarked, “Those who call themselves patriots have run away.”

“The Prime Minister has not been able to give a single statement. Trump has claimed 25 times that he brokered the ceasefire, but the PM has not responded even once.”

On PM Modi’s silence regarding Operation Sindoor, he took a swipe, saying, “The PM's reply is still ongoing.”

“Just like Operation Sindoor is ongoing, the PM’s reply is also ongoing. Now, every time Trump claims credit for the ceasefire, it raises suspicions,” he said.

Addressing the Opposition’s demand for a parliamentary discussion, the Congress leader said that talks are expected to take place after the Prime Minister’s return.

During the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, the Opposition has been protesting continuously against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar, the Pahalgam attack, and Operation Sindoor.

For the third consecutive day on Wednesday, proceedings in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were disrupted by protests, leading to adjournments.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi criticised PM Modi in the Lok Sabha, asserting that as LOP, he has the right to speak but is being denied the opportunity.
