The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking a court-monitored probe into the death of 121 persons following a stampede at a religious congregation in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh even as it termed such incidents as “very disturbing”.

“Everything does not have to come in a PIL under Article 32. You file it in the high court. The idea of all this is to make a sort of big deal about incidents that take place. Of course, these are disturbing incidents… High courts are robust courts… they are meant to deal with these kinds of matters,” a three-judge Bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud told petitioner Vishal Tiwari.
