In a heart-warming tale, a train in Jharkhand waited for two hours as an elephant delivered her calf.
Sharing the story, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on X said, “Beyond the news of human-animal conflicts, happy to share this example of their harmonious existence. A train in Jharkhand waited for two hours as an elephant delivered her calf. This shows how the two later walked on happily.”
“Following a whole-of-government approach, the Union Environment Ministry and Railway Ministry have surveyed 3,500 km of railway tracks in the country and identified more than 110 sensitive spots. It is lovely to see efforts producing such heart-warming results. Special kudos to the Jharkhand forest officials for their sensitivity that helped the elephant deliver her young one,” he added.
Notably, this come amid news reports about elephants getting killed on railway tracks. Since 2023, 43 elephants have been killed in train accidents.
