Tributes pour in for ex-PM from across political spectrum
Tributes have started pouring in, following the death of former PM Manmohan Singh. Former President Pratibha Patil condoled the demise of former PM, saying she had lost a learned colleague. “I had worked with him closely during my Presidential term and relied on a great deal for his vast knowledge, experience and wisdom,” she said.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar said he was deeply pained to learn about the passing of Manmohan Singh. The former Prime Minister, who was a distinguished economist, had transformed India’s economic landscape, wrote the VP.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he had lost a mentor and guide. “Millions of us who admired him will remember him with the utmost pride,” Gandhi wrote.
“Profoundly stunned and saddened by the sudden demise of our former PM. The country will miss his stewardship and I shall miss his affection,” Mamata Banerjee wrote on X. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu said he was deeply saddened by Manmohan Singh’s demise. “An intellectual statesman, Dr Singh embodied humility, wisdom, and integrity,” Naidu wrote in a message.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw were also among the dignitaries, who mourned Singh’s demise.
