‘Understand Pakistan’s reality’: Himanta’s message to ‘Aman ki Asha’ group
Senior BJP leader and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday cautioned peace seekers with Pakistan about what he described as the “grim realities” of the neighbouring country.
“To those in India who continue to preach ‘Aman ki Asha’ without grasping the ground reality — understand this: In Pakistan, talking about peace with India is treated as a crime,” Sarma said on X.
His remarks came on the same day when Pakistan demanded closed-door consultations at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to discuss rising tensions with India following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
Sarma said, “In India, talking about peace with Pakistan is tolerated, debated — even promoted in mainstream platforms. But romanticising Pakistan while enjoying Indian freedom is not idealism — it is ignorance at best, hypocrisy at worst — and a betrayal of your own motherland.”
Sarma argued his case by mentioning Pakistan’s treatment of pro-India voices.
“They resort to surveillance and profiling. Every post, tweet or article with a pro-India sentiment is tracked by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, especially the ISI. Students, activists, and journalists are routinely placed on watchlists,” he said.
Sarma also accused Pakistan of censorship.
“The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) actively blocks and removes any content deemed favourable to India. Even hashtags promoting peace or dialogue are erased without explanation. Under the draconian PECA, people are arrested for expressing anything seen as pro-India. Vague charges like ‘anti-state’ and ‘glorifying the enemy’ are used to silence voices of reason,” he said.

The senior BJP leader added that Pakistan citizens have been picked up by intelligence agencies, tortured, and jailed without trial—often for something as harmless as a poem, peace appeal or balanced article.
Sarma also said dozens, especially Baloch, Pashtun and Sindhi activists, have vanished without a trace for expressing support for India or challenging Pakistan’s military narrative.
