US Ambassador Gor in India for six-day visit
To meet Indian government counterparts to discuss a wide range of bilateral and strategic issues
Newly appointed US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in India on October 9 for a six-day visit (October 9-14). He is accompanied by Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas.
During the visit, Gor and Rigas will meet Indian government counterparts to discuss a wide range of bilateral and strategic issues.
“The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a safer, stronger and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the US State Department said in a statement.
The US Embassy in New Delhi described Gor’s trip as a short visit, adding that the presentation of his credentials and his formal move to India will take place at a later date, which has not yet been determined.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke over the phone and are believed to have discussed pending matters related to the stalled trade deal.
Gor, a trusted aide of President Trump, was confirmed by the US Senate as Ambassador to India on Tuesday. He will fill the vacancy created in January this year when Eric Garcetti was recalled following the change in administration in Washington DC.
