US trade delegation heads to India amid tariff tensions
The US on Monday confirmed the visit of a high-level trade delegation to India and said it was committed to continuing to advance a productive and balanced trade relationship with India.
Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch, along with a team of US government officials, will be in India from March 25 to 29 for meetings with Indian interlocutors as part of ongoing bilateral trade discussions.
"This visit reflects the United States' continued commitment to advancing a productive and balanced trade relationship with India. We value our ongoing engagement with the Government of India on trade and investment matters and look forward to continuing these discussions in a constructive, equitable, and forward-looking manner," the US Embassy in Delhi said.
The visit comes days ahead of the April 2 deadline US President Donald Trump has set for reciprocal tariffs with India to take effect.
India and the US are in negotiations for a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement, with the first tranche to be concluded by fall of this year.
