The US State Department has reiterated its appeal to India to “utilise” its relationship with Russia to urge President Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine war. US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller said this while answering media queries in the US yesterday when he was asked about PM Narendra Modi’s Moscow visit and how India and Russia decided to boost their trade ties.

Miller said India had a longstanding relationship with Russia, which was “well known”. “We have encouraged India to utilise that relationship with Russia, that longstanding relationship and the unique position that they have, to urge Putin to end the war and find lasting peace,” he said.
