A day after the government refused to give out vacancies in the armed forces, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of misleading the nation and undermining institutions by hiding critical data on the vacancies in armed forces.

Kharge cited instances when the past governments, including the previous Narendra Modi-led regime in 2023, had shared the data.

In a written question in Rajya Sabha, the government was asked “if it had taken note of the fact that there was a shortage of staff, including officers, soldiers and medical officers.”

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) had said “information sought is a sensitive operational matter and it would not be in the interest of national security to divulge details in the public domain”.
