New Delhi, April 19

The appointment of Vice Admiral DK Tripathi as the Navy Chief brings in an all-rounder at the helm. He will take over on April 30 when the incumbent R Hari Kumar retires. Vice Admiral Tripathi, the senior-most officer in the Navy, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various positions, including his recent tenure as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

An alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, he was commissioned into the Navy on July 1, 1985. A communication and electronic warfare specialist, he served on frontline warships of the Navy as Signal Communication Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer, and later as the Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer of guided missile destroyer INS Mumbai.

He commanded INS Vinash, INS Kirch and INS Trishul. Additionally, he has been Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet in Mumbai.

He has also worked as the Principal Director of Network-Centric Operations and done an assignment as Principal Director Naval Plans in New Delhi. He has been Assistant Chief of Navy in the policy and plans wing and served as the Director General of Naval Operations from July 2020 to May 2021.
