A woman narrowly escaped after falling through a hole on a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus in Chennai on Tuesday. Fortunately, she sustained minor scratches and was safely released once the bus came to a halt.

According to reports on X, the woman was travelling on a government bus number 59 from Vallalar Nagar to Thiruverkadu. The incident occurred near Aminjikarai when she plunged through the floor of the bus as she got up from her seat.

Passengers intervened, notifying the driver and preventing the woman from being crushed by the bus’s tyres.

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai took to X to share the details of the incident, criticising the DMK government for its negligence in maintaining public transportation infrastructure in Tamil Nadu. In his post, Annamalai highlighted concerns over “poorly maintained buses”, citing issues such as broken seats and water seepage during the rainy season.

Social media users sparked an outrage, reflecting widespread frustration over the deteriorating condition of the state of public transportation.

‘Roads are all damaged. Buses are damaged. The city is actually suffering from a mismanagement disease and the entire state law and order is breaking down…’ wrote one user.
