The government is eyeing a 2027 deadline for the opening or the first segment of the world’s largest museum, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, which will come up in the sprawling Secretariat complex of Lutyens Delhi.
Union culture minister Gajendra Shekhawat today told The Tribune that the Museum will have eight verticals including Architecture, Crafts and art of India and Evolution of Indian architecture.
Shekhawat said the North Block which houses ministries of home and finance will be available for work in the next three months but South block which houses the PMO will take another year for vacation.
"So on ground work for the museum will begin by year end. By 2027 we will have the first of the eight museum verticals ready. Once ready we expect a daily footfall of 50,000 at the museum," said the minister adding that request for proposals for the work had been floated and tenders done.
He said India had collaborated with France on the museum because France has best expertise in the world in the concession of office buildings I to museums.
The Louvre in France was originally the economic ministry building.
