A political storm erupted on Friday after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of turning Operation Sindoor into a self-promotional campaign, even as the operation remains ongoing and the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack are yet to be apprehended.

Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters here, Singh condemned the Prime Minister for using a national tragedy for electoral gains. “In Pahalgam, the sindoor of our sisters has been wiped away, and their families are still grieving. Yet the Prime Minister is busy marketing himself as ‘Sindoor ka Saudagar’ and even printing his image on railway tickets,” he said.

Drawing a theatrical analogy, Singh said, “On Thursday, a new film was released where the hero, villain and comedian are all PM Modi. The title of this film is Sindoor ke Saudagar.” He added that while the country is still mourning the loss of 26 lives in Pahalgam, PM Modi is attending rallies, addressing Bollywood stars and launching projects across various states.

Singh also questioned the Prime Minister’s role in military matters, asking, “Is he a Colonel, a Brigadier or the Army Chief? What gives him the right to launch publicity campaigns in the name of an ongoing military operation?”

The AAP MP criticised the Prime Minister for leaving the all-party meeting midway to campaign in Bihar and alleged that the government lost a historic opportunity to capture Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and support the Balochistan movement.

Responding sharply, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva called the AAP leader’s remarks “deeply regrettable” and accused the Opposition of spreading lies and weakening national morale. “While the entire nation stands united behind the Modi government and our armed forces, the AAP and its allies are engaging in reckless political posturing,” he said.

Sachdeva defended the Centre’s handling of Operation Sindoor, calling it a decisive strike against terrorism. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, terror incidents have reduced drastically, and India has shown zero tolerance towards terrorism,” he said.

He further alleged that Opposition leaders like Sanjay Singh were echoing sentiments “that seem written by Pakistan’s General Munir”, and accused them of undermining India’s global image.

The BJP leader concluded by reminding that even Opposition stalwarts like Sharad Pawar and Shashi Tharoor had supported the government on national security, and lamented that leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh were “embarrassing the nation” by politicising a sensitive military operation.
