Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday expressed concern over the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, saying it is turning into an "open conflict". Erdogan has also supported Pakistsn's call for a probe into the Pahalgam terror attack.

Erdogan's remarks came after the Indian Army said it neutralised over 50 swarm drones launched by Pakistan during a large-scale counter-drone operation conducted by the air defence units in the areas of Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota (all in Jammu and Kashmir) and Pathankot (Punjab).

"We are concerned that the tension between India and Pakistan is turning into an open conflict with missile attacks that have resulted in the martyrdom of many civilians," the Turkiye President said in a statement.

He also backed Pakistan's call for an independent probe into the Pahalgam terror attack.

"Yesterday, I had an important phone call with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. We value Pakistan’s proposal for an international investigation into the heinous terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, “he said.

He said Turkiye is making efforts to reduce the tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

"Despite those who seek to fuel the fire, we, as Türkiye, are making every effort to reduce tensions and open channels of dialogue before the situation reaches an irreversible point," he added.
